In our quest for verification to the truth of our initial story, we continue to research and we seem to continue to validate our findings.
It looks like Whit Barnett was never licensed as a Camp County Constable for Precinct 1. This is the “countywide,” Office which went into effect no later than 1989.
Whit Barnett does appear to be a a Constable for a different Precinct within Camp County, before 1989.
It looks like Whit did run for office in 1988; however, only “Primary Elections,” were able to be located within news clippings. It appears a Republican may have won the office for the years 1989 through 1992.
We noticed Whit did run again for the 1992 campaign and if he won, would of took office in 1993. We cannot find anything showing him as taking office.
In the 1992 campaign, we notice he was not the incumbent for the 1989 through 1992 office. It also looks like he went unopposed for the 1992 General Primary, but we have yet to find any articles of him accepting the office for the 1993 through 1996 years; and the Texas Commission in Law Enforcement (TCOLE) has no record of Whit Barnett being a Constable with Precinct 1, ever.
This is important, because it causes questions into an affidavit submitted by Jeffrey Barnett (current City of Kyle, Police Chief); which was signed in March 1992 and lists Constable Whit Barnett. We are not sure why Jeff Barnett would need a signed form in March 1992 if he was already approved to be in the Basic Peace Officer Course (BPOC) in 1991, before his Spring 1992 Northeast Texas Community College (NTCC) program; as required by TCOLE. Nor do we know why he needed to take a jailer certification for a full 40+ hours during a peak training time for BPOC and college course work; especially, when the BPOC certificate is issued months later.
UPDATE: We verified Whit Barnett was a Constable NOW we still have TCOLE with no record AND Camp County with no record of Jeff Barnett being a Constable.
There are other unanswered questions too, but we continue to look to validate we are writing ethical, honest, and transparent articles.
