On February 4, 2022, we requested the information discussed in the Harlingen Commissioners Meeting which occurred on or about February 10, 2022. The matter was first reported by the Valley Morning Star.
The request for information was made due to a prior Harlingen Commissioners Meeting. We requested any CD’s invested into Texas Regional Bank, or any invested during 2013 to 2019.
The response from the City of Harlingen was clear. They have no records of investing CD’s into the Texas Regional Bank. How could this be possible? It was discussed in a City Commissioners Meeting. The information clearly exists.
Now the City Commissioners want to perform an audit on investments; however, it seems violating the Texas Public Information Act (TPIA) may be another concern to address.
Is this the surface of corruptive conduct hidden within the City of Harlingen Government? We have other requests pending too. Specifically, we have asked for Mayor Boswell’s emails sent to his employment account, not associated with the City of Harlingen, about matters of official business in his role as the Mayor of Harlingen.
We have yet to receive any responses, but we did publish about a potential appearance of impropriety for using the City of Harlingen webpage to advertise his law office.
