Democrat Race for Hays County Sheriff Heating Up with January 2024 Campaign Finance Reports

The race for Hays County Sheriff is gaining momentum as Democratic candidates Daniel C. Law and Alexander (Alex) Villalobos have recently filed their January 2024 Campaign Finance Reports. These disclosures shed light on the candidates’ financial backing and provide insight into their campaign strategies as they vie for the pivotal role of Hays County Sheriff. Daniel C. Law’s Campaign Finance Report

Law was a pervious Sheriff for Caldwell County from January 2001, through December 2020. Prior to his time as the Sheriff for Caldwell County, he worked for the Hays County Sheriff’s Office from 1995 through 2000. He also worked for the Caldwell Sheriff’s Office from 1989 through 1995. Law is a current Hays County Deputy Constable for Precinct 1. He has held this role from 2021.

Law has provided two Campaign Finance Reports. The first report is for the reporting period of July 16, 2023 through January 15, 2024. In that report, he claims $7,621.75 in total political contributions. He claims $1,821.74 in total political expenditures. At the end of the reporting cycle he has a balance of $5,800. In review of donations, we noticed the employment listed for those providing contributions consisted of ranchers, business owners, law enforcement, teachers, developers, retired individuals, and attorneys. The principal occupation listed the most was attorney. 

Law provided a second Campaign Finance Report. The reporting period was from January 16, 2024 through February 5, 2024. In this report, he indicated $600.00 in total contributions and $2,120.35 in total political expenditures. He ended the reporting period with $4,709.65 in maintained funds.

Alexander (Alex) Villalobos Campaign Finance Report

Villalobos claims employment as a peace officer with Texas State University (TSU) from 2007 through 2018. He also worked as a Reserve Deputy Constable for Hays County Precinct 3 from 2019 through 2020. He currently totes his not full-time status as a Reserve Deputy Constable for the Maverick County Constable in Precinct 4 since November 2023.

Villalobos provided a Campaign Finance Report for the reporting period of July 1, 2023 through December 31, 2023. He claimed $13,707.00 in total political contributions. He indicates $6,853.16 in total political expenditures. Villalobos states he had $8,599.82 in contributions maintained at the end of the reporting period. In review of donors, Villalobos lists numerous unemployed individuals. He also has a lot of people where an occupation is not listed. He has other employment types listed too, such as analyst, self employed, retired, attorney, medical professions, construction, a Director of Mano Amiga, and sales professionals. Of interest in Villalobos’s expenditures may be the numerous deductions for travel outside of the county, food, and Act Blue.
