Wilson County Auditor and county judge candidate Brenda Lea Trevino was arrested February 4, 2026, and processed through the Wilson County Jail on a charge of possession of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 2 in an amount less than one gram, a state jail felony under Texas law.
Booking records show Trevino was taken into custody by the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office and booked at approximately 2:10 p.m. Court paperwork indicates Trevino was released on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond.

Service as Wilson County Auditor
Trevino has served as the appointed Wilson County auditor since August 2019, a position responsible for oversight of county finances, implementation of internal controls designed to safeguard public funds, and auditing of county departments that manage public property or expenditures. She has been reappointed multiple times by the district courts overseeing the office.
2026 Campaign for Wilson County Judge
Trevino is a Republican candidate for Wilson County judge in the March 3, 2026 primary election. Her campaign platform has emphasized infrastructure development, support for law enforcement, economic growth, and fiscal accountability within county government.
Her arrest occurs during an active election cycle in which the county judge position serves as the chief administrative and budgetary authority for county government.
Prior Felony Indictment in Separate Case
Before the February 2026 arrest, Trevino had already been indicted in August 2025 on felony charges of misapplication of fiduciary property in a separate criminal case involving a county commissioner and a private business owner. Prosecutors allege Trevino knowingly caused Wilson County to overpay for a 1999 Peterbilt semi-truck in October 2023 and later participated in the sale of a county-owned road grader in March 2024 without a public bidding process or auction. Investigative findings supporting the indictment were presented by the district attorney’s office with assistance from a Texas Ranger and a federal investigator.
Those allegations remain pending and are legally distinct from the February 2026 drug possession charge.
Legal and Political Implications
The presence of an active felony indictment related to county financial transactions, combined with a new felony arrest during an ongoing campaign, introduces additional legal and political considerations as the election approaches.
The Hawk’s Eye reached out to Trevino for comment prior to publication. No response had been received at the time this article was published.
Presumption of Innocence
All criminal charges are allegations, and defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
