Houston Area Federal Agent Charged with Theft and False Statements
On January 31, 2024, U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani announced that a 36-year-old federal agent from Houston, Nicholas Anthony Williams, has been charged with theft of personal and government property as well as providing false statements.
Williams, an FBI special agent in the Houston Field Office since 2019, is facing allegations related to his activities from March 2022 to July 2023. It is claimed that he took money or property from multiple residences while executing search warrants and then used the money or property for personal gain.
Additionally, Williams is accused of stealing multiple cell phones that were FBI property. The indictment also states that he provided false statements regarding fraudulent charges on his government-issued credit card. If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in federal prison and a maximum fine of $250,000.
It’s important to note that an indictment is a formal accusation of criminal conduct and not evidence. The Department of Justice Office of Inspector General is conducting the investigation, and the case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Laura Garcia and Sarina DiPiazza.
It’s crucial to remember that a defendant is presumed innocent unless convicted through due process of law. Williams is set to make his initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Christina Bryan at 2 p.m.
