Corpus Christi Police Release Unedited Video in April 17 Officer-Involved Incident

By

The Corpus Christi Police Department announced it has released unedited body-worn camera and dash camera video related to an officer-involved incident that occurred on April 17, 2025. The department stated the decision followed a recent news report that it described as presenting a “one-sided account” of the encounter. Officials said the full video release is intended to provide additional context surrounding the traffic stop and subsequent events.

According to the department, the only redactions made to the footage involve motor vehicle license plates. License plate numbers may be blurred in the video or redacted from radio traffic audio to protect privacy. The department emphasized that no other edits were made to the recordings.

Department’s Account of the Incident

In its statement, the department said the released video shows the officer had probable cause to initiate a traffic stop. Authorities stated the vehicle did not immediately stop and instead continued through a stop sign before ultimately pulling over in what was described as a secluded area.

Police said that once the officer made contact with the driver, the individual failed to comply with verbal commands and reached toward the vehicle’s center console. The officer then removed the male from the vehicle, according to the department. Officials further stated the individual continued to refuse verbal commands during the encounter.

The department noted that officers routinely make split-second decisions based on rapidly evolving circumstances. No additional details about potential charges or injuries were included in the release.

Audio Limitations and Viewer Advisory

Officials cautioned that portions of the video may be difficult to watch and advised that strong language is present in the recordings. The department also disclosed that dash camera audio is not audible and that body-worn camera audio begins approximately 30 seconds into the body camera recording.

Commitment to Transparency

The department stated it recognizes the importance of maintaining public trust and said it will continue striving to meet community expectations of professionalism. Officials said the release of the full, unedited video reflects an effort to provide transparency amid public concern.

The department added that it has worked for years to build relationships within the community and remains committed to continuing that work. Officials expressed appreciation for the continued support of the department and its officers.
