Donna Police Arrest Registered Sex Offender Following “Predator Poachers” Sting

By

Authorities in the Rio Grande Valley report that a man has been arrested following an online solicitation of a minor investigation in Donna, Texas. According to the Donna Police Department, officers were dispatched on Monday, March 16, 2026, at approximately 1:17 p.m. after receiving a report involving a male subject attempting to meet with an 11-year-old child.

When officers arrived, they made contact with the reporting party, who stated that the suspect had been communicating online with someone he believed to be an 11-year-old girl. Police say the suspect had arranged to meet the child in person. Investigators determined that the communication and planned meeting formed the basis of the criminal charge.

Suspect Identified as Registered Sex Offender

Following a preliminary investigation, officers identified the suspect as Curtis Leeroy Akers, 39, of Donna. The Donna Police Department stated that Akers is a registered sex offender. Authorities confirmed he was taken into custody and charged with Online Solicitation of a Minor under the age of 14.

Hidalgo County Jail records show Akers was booked on March 16, 2026, and issued a $200,000 cash surety bond. The Donna Police Department noted that the investigation is ongoing and additional details have not yet been released.

Civilian Group Claims Role in Initial Contact

A civilian group operating online under the name “Predator Poachers” has also publicly claimed involvement in the events leading up to the arrest. In a statement posted to social media, the group indicated that the suspect had been communicating with what he believed to be an underage girl on a social media platform.

According to the group, the online persona presented to the suspect was intended to appear as a minor, and conversations allegedly progressed to the point where an in-person meeting was arranged. The group states that once the suspect arrived at the agreed location, he was confronted before law enforcement was contacted.

Video Shows Pre-Arrest Interaction

Video circulating online appears to show a portion of that encounter after police arrival. In the footage, the individual believed to be the suspect can be heard noting the presence of police in the area and asking whether he was free to leave. A member of the civilian group responds that they do not have authority to detain him and that law enforcement would need to make that determination.

During the exchange, a member of the civilian group can be heard making a remark referencing prior behavior in a joking manner, stating it was “only” the individual’s fifth time and not a sixth or seventh. That statement appears to originate from the civilian group during the confrontation, and its accuracy has not been independently verified by investigators.

Investigation Remains Active

The Donna Police Department emphasized that the case remains under active investigation. Officials are asking anyone with additional information related to this case to contact the Donna Police Department at (956-464-4481) or submit a tip anonymously through Donna Crime Stoppers at (956-464-TIPS 8477) or through the P3 App.

Authorities also reiterated the importance of monitoring children’s online activity and reporting suspicious behavior. As with all criminal cases, the charge against Akers is an allegation, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
