Selma Police Seize Over 32 Kilograms of Cocaine During IH-35 Traffic Stop

Selma Police Seize Over 32 Kilograms of Cocaine During IH-35 Traffic Stop

By

A traffic stop along Interstate 35 early Tuesday morning led to the seizure of more than 32 kilograms of cocaine and the arrest of a commercial truck driver, according to Selma Police Department officials and Guadalupe County jail records. According to Selma police, officers conducted a traffic stop on a semi-truck and trailer in the 16000 block of IH-35 during the early hours of March 10, 2026. Police officials said the stop was initially made because the truck had an expired registration. During the encounter, officers began speaking with the driver and reviewing documentation related to the trip. Authorities said the driver provided statements about his travel that raised concerns with officers on scene. Police officials reported there was a discrepancy between the driver’s statements and his commercial driver’s license (CDL) logbook records, prompting further investigation. Officers then requested the assistance of a K-9 unit to conduct a narcotics sniff around the vehicle.

Selma Police K-9 Maverick was deployed during the traffic stop and alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle, according to officials. Based on the alert and the inconsistencies noted during the stop, officers conducted a search of the cab of the semi-truck. During the search, investigators discovered bundles concealed inside hollowed-out large tractor batteries that had been placed inside black trash bags. Police said the bundles were tightly wrapped and field tests indicated the substance was cocaine. Authorities reported that the total weight of the suspected narcotics exceeded 32 kilograms. Due to the quantity involved and the packaging, officers worked to secure the narcotics at the scene before transporting the evidence for processing.

Evidence Recovered at Scene and Police Department

According to Selma police officials, approximately half of the cocaine was recovered during the traffic stop along the roadway. Investigators later located the remaining portion of the narcotics after the truck was transported, with evidence recovered partly from the roadway and partly at the Selma Police Department as officers processed the vehicle and evidence connected to the case. Authorities said the narcotics were packaged in multiple bundles hidden inside the modified tractor batteries, which investigators believe were used to conceal the drugs during transport. Officers documented and collected the evidence before transferring it into police custody.

Driver Booked into Guadalupe County Jail

Adrian Perez-Martinez

The driver was taken into custody following the discovery. Guadalupe County jail records identify the suspect as Adrian Perez Martinez, 38, who was booked into the Guadalupe County Jail on March 10, 2026. Jail records show Martinez is charged with Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1, greater than 400 grams. Booking information indicates Martinez is being held on a $500,000 surety bond. Additional details about the origin or destination of the narcotics have not been released. As with all criminal cases, the charge is an allegation and the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
