Did a Bexar County Justice of the Peace Dismiss a Charge Greater than Fine Only?

By

In review of records received by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE), through the Texas Public Information Act (TPIA), it appears a Justice of the Peace accepted a plea agreement for a case higher than a fine only.

TCOLE TPIA

Such item has a cause number listed for a Justice of the Peace court. Justices only have original jurisdiction of fine only matters in Texas; per Article 45 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedures.

So why did the officer surrender his license? Is there more to the story? We are in the process of requesting more TPIA to find out, but we were unable to find anything in County or District Court files; which would be the original jurisdiction of matters above a fine.

We will update as more information becomes available.
