Klint Daniel Bush, the former official who once oversaw Liberty County elections, was taken into custody Friday morning at his home in Hardin and booked on 11 counts of possession of child pornography. Bush, 43, was named Liberty County’s first elections administrator in 2019 and previously served as president of the Liberty County Housing Authority board.

Charges Point Back to Day of 2022 Raids
Every new count lists Dec. 8, 2022, as the alleged offense date. That is the same day investigators raided Bush’s Hardin home and the Housing Authority’s offices during a separate investigation involving the Texas Rangers, the Liberty County District Attorney’s Office and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Office of Inspector General. Bush was arrested that day on allegations of theft and abuse of official capacity connected to his work with the Housing Authority.
The earlier investigation focused on allegations that Bush improperly directed roughly $33,000 in federal CARES Act money through businesses that investigators described as existing only as bank accounts. An investigative affidavit alleged that a large portion of the money was later transferred into a separate housing-related corporation associated with Bush. An attorney speaking for Bush disputed those accusations and maintained that he did not take or personally benefit from the money. Grand juries later returned additional Housing Authority-related indictments alleging theft, abuse of official capacity and prohibited self-dealing.
From Elections Administrator to Criminal Defendant
Bush was selected in late 2019 to establish and lead Liberty County’s newly created Elections Administration Office, officially assuming the position on Jan. 1, 2020. His arrest three years later placed his county employment under immediate concern, although the allegations involved his Housing Authority role and not his administration of elections. The Liberty County Elections Commission suspended Bush with pay days after the December 2022, arrest and temporarily placed the Elections Department under the County Clerk’s Office. County commissioners later eliminated the administrator’s position and returned election responsibilities to the County Clerk, while voter-registration duties went back to the Tax Assessor-Collector.
The Housing Authority-related prosecution continued after Bush’s departure from county government. By spring 2026, he was facing trial on allegations of theft and misapplication of fiduciary or financial property involving between $150,000 and $300,000. One of the filings identifies 14 transactions totaling more than $163,000 that prosecutors contend were improper. Bush was released on a personal-recognizance bond following his April booking, and the trial on those separate financial charges was reset for Aug. 21, in the 253rd District Court.
An arrest or indictment is not evidence of guilt, and the government must prove each allegation in court. Bush is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
