Former Maverick County Detective Indicted for Bribery

The FBI has reported that a prior Maverick County Sheriff’s Deputy was arrested on criminal charges related to his alleged role in a bribery scheme.

According to the FBI’s Press Release, “Fernando Leonel Chacon Jr., 41, allegedly devised a scheme to use his position with the Maverick County Sheriff’s Office to enrich himself by soliciting and accepting bribes of money and other things of value in exchange for removing pending tickets and arrest warrants against citizens.”

He is charged by a federal indictment. He is accused of two counts of wire fraud. If he is convicted, he could receive a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison on each count.

The Press release indicated that the FBI, Texas Rangers and the Eagle Pass Police Department are investigating the case.
