Hays County Sheriff’s Office Training Academy Earns Zero-Deficiency Audit

By

The Hays County Sheriff’s Office Training Academy has received a zero-deficiency rating following a comprehensive audit conducted by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE), according to both the agency and the official evaluation report. The inspection reviewed the academy’s adherence to state law and administrative rules governing law enforcement training providers, including authorization, staffing, facilities, and course reporting practices. The findings show the academy met all required standards without any violations or corrective actions identified. The evaluation process also included an on-site review of training files and documentation to verify compliance across multiple operational areas.

The Review

The audit examined several core compliance categories tied to how law enforcement academies operate under state regulation, including minimum licensing standards, continuing education requirements, and the responsibilities of the training coordinator.  Evaluators also reviewed course rosters and submission timelines to ensure reporting met TCOLE requirements. The inspection assessed whether the academy maintained proper documentation and followed procedural guidelines established under state law. Officials note that these audits are designed to confirm that training providers consistently meet statutory and administrative obligations.

The Report

The evaluation determined that no deficiencies were identified during the audit, confirming the academy’s full compliance with applicable standards.  The report indicates that while follow-up evaluations may occur in the future, no corrective measures were required as a result of this inspection. It also outlines that agencies found out of compliance can face administrative penalties or contract action, though none were applicable in this case. The findings place the academy in good standing as a certified training provider under TCOLE oversight.

The Recognition

In a public statement, the sheriff’s office recognized Training Academy personnel for their role in achieving the audit outcome, specifically naming Sergeant Mike Andrews and Training Registrar Mindi Duckworth. The agency highlighted their leadership in maintaining compliance standards and ensuring training programs align with regulatory requirements. Officials stated that the results reflect the professionalism and operational discipline of the academy staff. The sheriff’s office added that consistent compliance is necessary to ensure personnel are properly trained to meet the demands of law enforcement service in the community.
