A detention officer employed by the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office was arrested February 28, 2026, on a stalking charge filed by the Edinburg Police Department, according to booking records and a public statement released by the sheriff’s office.
Authorities identified the former employee as 25-year-old Lathan Lee Sanchez. Jail records show Sanchez was booked by the Edinburg Police Department on February 28, 2026, and charged with stalking. The listed offense date is February 14, 2026. Bond was set at $30,000, and records reflect a bond was posted the same day.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
Resigned in Lieu of Termination
In a statement posted publicly, the sheriff’s office confirmed Sanchez had been employed as a detention officer. The agency stated he resigned February 27, 2026, in lieu of termination, one day before his arrest.
“As an organization, we are committed to upholding public confidence and preserving the community’s trust,” Sheriff J.E. “Eddie” Guerra said in the statement. “We thoroughly investigate all allegations of employee misconduct and take appropriate actions to ensure accountability and transparency to the citizens we serve.”
The sheriff’s office did not provide additional details regarding the internal circumstances that led to the resignation.

Records from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement show Sanchez was appointed with the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office on August 11, 2025, and separated on February 13, 2026.
