A Nixon Police Department lieutenant has been arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated following a February traffic stop in Wilson County, according to law enforcement records obtained by The Hawk’s Eye. The arrest has prompted administrative action by his department and raised additional questions about how related booking records were released to a third party. The Hawk’s Eye has confirmed multiple aspects of the case through official documents and communication with agency leadership.
Traffic Stop and Arrest Details
According to an affidavit, the incident occurred on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at approximately 2:50 a.m., when deputies were patrolling in the La Vernia area of Wilson County. A deputy reported observing a vehicle and noting several indicators consistent with a potentially intoxicated driver, leading to a traffic stop. Upon contact, the driver—identified as Travis Michael Beck—was described as having slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and emitting a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The report further states Beck admitted to consuming alcohol prior to the stop.

The affidavit indicates Beck initially consented to perform standardized field sobriety testing but withdrew consent shortly after exiting the vehicle. Based on the deputy’s observations and training, Beck was taken into custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. A search warrant for a blood specimen was obtained and executed. Beck was charge with Texas Penal Code 49.04 (DWI), a misdemeanor offense. Beck was released on a $4,000 bond.
As with all criminal cases, the charge is an allegation, and Beck is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
Administrative Action Confirmed by Chief
After being contacted by The Hawk’s Eye, Nixon Police Department Chief Miguel Cruz Cantu confirmed that Beck, who holds the rank of lieutenant, has been placed on paid administrative leave pending further review. The department has not released additional details.
Employment History
Records reviewed by The Hawk’s Eye show Beck has more than a decade of law enforcement service across multiple agencies in Wilson County and surrounding areas. His career dates back to March 2007, when he began working with the La Vernia Police Department, where he served until August 2008. He then joined the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office, where he remained for nearly 12 years, from August 2008 through May 2020.
Following his time with the sheriff’s office, Beck returned to the La Vernia Police Department in May 2020, where he served until January 2024. In February 2024, Beck joined the Nixon Police Department, where he currently serves as a lieutenant.
Release Raises Additional Questions
Separate from the arrest itself, The Hawk’s Eye has learned that Beck’s booking sheet was released to a third party without going through what officials describe as the customary process. According to information provided to The Hawk’s Eye, the Wilson County Attorney’s Office indicated the document was disseminated without first being routed through their office, which is commonly part of the standard review process for such records.
At this time, it remains unclear how the booking information was initially released, who authorized the release, or whether any policies were violated. Officials have not yet provided details on whether an internal review or investigation into the release is underway. The Hawk’s Eye is continuing to seek clarification, including records that may explain the sequence of events and any resulting actions.
