A Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) trooper resigned in November 2025 following a family violence arrest earlier that year in Travis County, according to court records, an arrest affidavit, and state records. Cristobal Pedro Flores was arrested on June 20, 2025, and charged with assault causing bodily injury to a family member, a Class A misdemeanor under Texas law. The case was filed June 23, 2025, in County Court at Law #4 in Travis County and remains pending as of the latest available records. The arrest stems from a domestic disturbance reported at a residence on Maragra Lane in Austin and was investigated by the Travis County Sheriff’s Office.

Affidavit Describes Relationship History and Escalating Conflict
According to the arrest affidavit, the incident occurred within the context of a long-term marriage marked by ongoing verbal conflict and alleged abuse. The spouse told deputies that Flores had been “out of control” and described him as “an alcoholic and abusive towards her since they got married approximately 17 years ago.” She further stated that law enforcement had previously been called to the residence, but “nothing has ever been done to Cristobal in the past,” adding that she believed “nothing would happen today.” The affidavit notes that the spouse appeared emotional, had difficulty speaking about the relationship, and expressed a sense of resignation based on prior encounters with law enforcement.
The affidavit states that the events of June 20, 2025, began with a disagreement related to preparations for a family gathering scheduled for the following day, where Flores planned to cook beans. The spouse told deputies that she asked Flores earlier in the morning whether he was going to get the ingredients, which she believed triggered his anger. According to the affidavit, Flores responded by telling her “it was still early” and began calling her “stupid,” behavior she described as common, before escalating to calling her a “bitch” throughout the day. The document indicates that the verbal conflict continued after Flores left the residence and returned with groceries and a case of beer, at which point he began drinking and continued directing insults toward her.
By the evening hours, the affidavit states Flores was in the kitchen preparing the beans when the argument reignited after the spouse asked where a dish rag was located. According to the affidavit, Flores responded that it was under a cutting board and then asked if she “had a problem with that” before again calling her a “bitch.”
Physical Altercation and Reported Injuries
According to the arrest affidavit, the verbal confrontation escalated into a physical altercation inside the kitchen shortly after the exchange over the dish rag. The spouse told deputies that after Flores again called her a derogatory name, she threw the contents of a drink onto him and turned to walk away. The affidavit states that Flores then “pushed her with both hands” into a nearby microwave stand, causing her to strike her hip and head. She reported feeling immediate pain to her left hip and stated that her head made contact with the microwave shelf during the impact.
The affidavit indicates that following the push, the spouse left the immediate area and went into the garage in an effort to distance herself from Flores. After a short period, she returned inside the residence, where the situation remained tense and unresolved. According to the affidavit, Flores told her to leave him alone, and when she responded that he should leave if he wanted space, he went into the bedroom and began gathering belongings. The deputy documented that Flores was “throwing clothes around the room,” “flipped the mattress off the bed,” and damaged a closet door while packing.
When deputies arrived on scene, the affidavit states they separated the individuals and conducted interviews, beginning with the spouse. The responding deputy documented observing a visible injury described as “an approximately 2-inch vertical scratch” on her hip that was “bright red” and about a quarter-inch wide. The deputy also noted a “bump on the top of her head” that could be felt upon examination, though no visible discoloration was observed due to her hair.
Flores provided a statement to deputies acknowledging that a verbal argument had occurred and confirming that he pushed his spouse after she threw a drink on him. According to the affidavit, he stated that she struck a countertop rather than a microwave stand and described his actions as a response to being provoked. He further told deputies that later in the encounter he restrained her by placing one of her arms behind her back and holding the other to her side until she “relaxed,” at which point he released her.
Employment History and Resignation
State records show that Flores had a long career in Texas law enforcement spanning more than two decades. He was employed by the Texas Department of Public Safety from January 22, 1999, until November 30, 2025. Prior to joining DPS, records show he worked for the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office from September 17, 1997, to July 19, 1998.
On November 5, 2025, several months after the arrest and while the criminal case remained pending, Flores resigned from the Texas Department of Public Safety in lieu of termination.
Flores is considered innocent until proven guilty in the court of law.
