Wilson County Deputy Reprimanded After Politically Motivated Workplace Comment

By

In recently released disciplinary records, Skylar Dailey, a deputy with the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office, received a written reprimand late last year after engaging in what coworkers described as a discriminatory and politically motivated conversation. The incident occurred inside a captain’s office at the Wilson County Jail and involved remarks made in front of three other individuals. According to internal documentation, the comment was reported by a supervisor and supported by statements from multiple witnesses who were present during the exchange.

Details of the Incident

Records show the comment was made on September 10, 2025, during a workplace conversation referencing the assassination of political activist Charlie Kirk, a national conservative figure who was fatally shot earlier that day while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. Authorities described the killing as a targeted attack, with Kirk struck by a single rifle shot during a public appearance attended by thousands.

According to the disciplinary file, Dailey stated: “I don’t care what your political views are, but you don’t see us running around shooting people at black lives matters rallies.” Coworkers who heard the remark characterized it as inappropriate, with documentation noting concerns that it was discriminatory and politically charged.

Discipline and Response

Following the investigation, the department issued a written reprimand and required Dailey to complete sensitivity training as part of a corrective action plan. In a written response included in her personnel file, Dailey disputed the characterization of the comment, stating it was significantly misinterpreted and not intended to be hostile or discriminatory. She wrote that she understood the seriousness of the allegation and the need to maintain a professional environment, while also emphasizing that she did not intend to offend anyone and referenced her role on the agency’s public relations team.

Employment History and Current Role

State licensing records from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement show Dailey has moved across multiple agencies over the course of her career, holding positions with at least nine different law enforcement entities since 2014. Records indicate she began her career as a dispatcher with the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office from June 2014 to October 2014 before joining the Helotes Police Department, where she worked from November 2014 through May 2020. During that same period, she also held a short-term position with the Kirby Police Department from June 2019 to August 2019. After leaving Helotes, Dailey transitioned to the Guadalupe County Fire Marshal’s Office as a dispatcher from February 2020 to March 2021, while also holding an appointment with the Seguin Police Department from September 2020 to August 2021.

Her first licensed peace officer appointment came with the George West Police Department, where she served from September 2021 to January 2023. Records further show a brief overlapping appointment with the Three Rivers Police Department from September 2022 to October 2022. In 2023, Dailey moved between two agencies in relatively short succession, working for the La Vernia Police Department from January to May before joining the Jourdanton Police Department from June 2023 to February 2024. After approximately a two-month gap in employment, she was appointed by the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office in April 2024. Her LinkedIn profile indicates she currently serves as a field training officer and public information officer for the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office.

  1. Everyone that is guilty of stating any opinion on any subject ,while on the job and getting paid should be recommended because while other job anything that does happen or comes out of the mouth of the employee is the responsibility of the employer so if you’re working for me take the cotton out of your ears and put in your mouth your opinion does not matter
