Pearsall High School Receptionist Arrested in Cocaine Distribution Investigation

Pearsall High School Receptionist Arrested in Cocaine Distribution Investigation

By

A receptionist employed at Pearsall High School was arrested earlier this month following a narcotics investigation conducted by the Frio County Sheriff’s Office. According to jail and court records, Heather Leal, 40, was taken into custody on March 4, 2026, and booked into the Frio County Jail. Authorities charged Leal with manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 1, involving cocaine, a felony offense under Texas law. Jail records indicate a magistrate later set bond at $40,000 following her arrest.

Investigation Began After Informant Tip

Court documents show investigators had been conducting an investigation into suspected narcotics activity prior to the arrest. According to an affidavit filed in support of a search warrant, Frio County Sheriff’s Office stated they received information from a confidential informant regarding alleged cocaine distribution in the Pearsall area. The informant reportedly told investigators that Leal would meet customers away from her residence to complete suspected narcotics transactions. Investigators said they also received similar information from several community members alleging that Leal was involved in selling cocaine.

Surveillance Leads to Alleged Drug Exchange

Investigators later conducted surveillance on a vehicle believed to be driven by Leal. According to the affidavit, deputies observed the vehicle leave a residence in Pearsall and travel to another location where it met with another individual. Law enforcement officials reported observing what they described as a hand-to-hand exchange between the driver and the other person. Investigators stated the interaction was consistent with narcotics transactions they have encountered in prior drug investigations.

Search Warrant Authorized

Based on the information gathered during the investigation, a magistrate approved a search warrant for a residence in Pearsall believed to be associated with the suspect. The warrant authorized officers to search the property for cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and other items commonly associated with drug trafficking. Investigators were also authorized to seize potential evidence including scales, packaging materials, electronic devices, and currency believed to be linked to narcotics sales.

Jail records indicate Leal was booked on a charge of manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance between four and 200 grams, which is classified as a felony under Texas law. The charge listed in the jail records also references delivery of a controlled substance not occurring within a designated drug-free zone. Officials have not publicly released additional details regarding evidence recovered during the investigation. Leal is still listed on the Pearsall High School website as a receptionist. As with all criminal cases, the charge is an allegation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
